DRIP

An ice cream holder that doesn't let you waste a single drop of ice cream by collecting the melted part.

Individual Project
7 weeks

Brief

Year 2,  Semester 1

Design a product for the restaurant of a chef from the Netflix documentary chef's table. The product should reflect the chef's philosophy and identity through its rationale, design, detail and exploration of material. Taking into consideration functionality and materiality, design a product of value that distinctly represents the philosophy of the chef.

Chosen Chef

Jordi Roca

FROM: Girona, Catalonia, Spain

EDUCATION:  Apprenticeship

COOKING STYLE: Molecular Gastronomy

RESTAURANTS: El Celler de Can Roca, Casa Cacao,  Rocambolesc

-Born in 1978, he is regarded as one of the top dessert experts on the Spanish culinary scene.

-Jordan produced desserts for Celler de Can Roca- a restaurant started by two of his brothers and was later joined by him. The three brothers have crafted one of the most exquisite and sought after dining experiences on the planet.

-He does not forget his roots and constantly draws on childhood memories when preparing his desserts.

-In his dishes, there is not a lack of artistic and cultural references.

-His work is based on the idea of playing - the ability to imagine, create, play and analyze results.

-He is a magician of desserts, an illusionist who seeks to amaze and conjure up new visions and experiences for his customers.

- For him, sustainability is the future of cuisine.

-Memories, smells and the journey can be considered as his sources of inspiration.

-Jordi Roca was also the impulse behind the new ice cream shop, Rocambolesc.

Rocambolsec

-The interior of Rocambolesc is inspired by Willy Wonka from Charlie and the chocolate factory.
-Jordi wanted to bring back the traditional cart that is why Rocambolesc was born.
-It is a window offering glimpse into the intricacies of Celler de Can Roca and its sweeter side.
-The shop’s interior also reflects Jordi’s personality.

IDEATION

-Redesign the ice cream cup in such a way that it can store the melted part of the ice cream and then you can eat that again.
-Change the material to something that is more sustainable.
-Explore possibilities for packaging structure to create a user experience.

-Take home ice-cream container.

Clear glass

Frosted glass

The reason for choosing glass is to be able to let the consumers see the cone that is placed inside it.

Stainless steel

Steel with double vacuum insulation to prevent the ice cream from melting for a longer period of time.
